Lighting is Everything

When I’m not in the studio or in the garden, I am usually in the kitchen. This painting is a portrait of many things that Jacques and I love and use on a daily basis. Our knives, our coffee grinder, our ancient stand mixer, the compost pot, and even the grease jar.

Afternoon Sunlight, 2025. Oil on panel, 24” x 36”. $4,000

What brings these objects to life is the dappled sunlight slanting in from the south-facing window, spreading a pattern of bright highlights and leaf shadows over the canvas of cupboard doors.

This is the latest painting in my series of Window images, exploring light as an object, and its role in defining indoor and outdoor spaces.
