A Window on the Future

This print began as a technical challenge. I wanted to do a window image, but to use individual etching plates for each pane of the window, with silkscreen layers adding color and rice paper collage adding texture.

My young friends Tory and David were willing to pose, and we had a playful photo session.

David and Tory, 2025. Original intaglio/silkscreen print, 15” x 19”, (image size 15” x 12”), on craft Stonehenge paper, with chine collé. Edition of 10, $800.

Creating this multimedia print was a long process, and it gave me time to reflect on the subjects, and the age gap between us.

It’s typical of older generations to be critical of younger ones, but in my case I often feel the opposite. These guys are so far ahead of where I was at their age. They are out, proud, and full of positivity. Well educated, politically engaged, and dedicated to the environment. They’re also a lot of fun. That’s a lot of energy to contain in four little copper plates! I hope I have succeeded.
